Wee Win shows speed

Wee Win showed that he was making rapid progress in preparation for his attempt to qualify for the New Zealand Cup in November when he was successful at the Addington trials; yesterday. Wee Win is at present a; C 8 horse and he requires, two wins to be eligible for i the big 3200 m event. He will j have races to suit him at I the national meeting next| month. Wee Win was left in the; open in the early stages of {the race and Wes Butt sent him to the front at the 1800 m. He coasted along in front, but applied the pressure over the last 400 m in 29.8 and was doing his work well at the line. He took a leisurely 3:41 for the 2600 m in cold conditions, taking 1:1.6 for the final 800 m.

Dragon’s Dream, which has been off the scene for some time, put dash into his work when he finished second, a length from Wee Win and a head in front of Prince Twinkle, which made ground steadily from the 500 m. Gay Tennessee was placed fourth, ahead of Ko-

tare Legend, which followed Prince Twinkle up and looked to have plenty in re-1 serve at the finish. Kotare Legend has not | raced since last November, ■when his efforts were many I removes from his best. He {has been suffering from a {liver complaint, which has {responded well to treatment. I He looked in great heart I yesterdax and sprinted his | final 400 m in 28.9. If he con{tinues to make satisfactory I {progress, he will resume racing at the national meet-; ing. Rodney Dale, Nigel Craig, { Tiny Spark, Abbey Star,: Sherry Lane, Vitellia, Torrid! and Master Leon were others to show to advantage] and suggested bold runs! early in the new season. My One came from well! back to beat the two-year-' olds in 2:50 for 2000 m/ She! took 1:2.8 for her last 800 m. | Connoisseur came on quite well for second, ahead of; Michael’s Advice, with Loch!
