Meeting about nuclear ships
Lyttelton will be in the front line should a mishap occur aboard a visiting nuclear ship. The borough's vulnerability has roused considerable feeling in some circles, and has prompted the calling of a public meeting this evening in the Lyttelton Harbour Board's social hall Ito discuss the issue. Port unions and Labour members of the Lyttelton Borough Council have already made a film stand in opposition to visits from nuclear-armed or nuclearpowered ships, but the Values Party has taken the initiative in calling this evening’s meeting. The meeting will discuss precautions planned in the event of an accident, and will be addressed by representatives of the police, the Civil Defence organisation, the Lyttelton Harbour Board, and other organisations which would be involved in any emergency.
