N.Z. SKATERS PREPARE

Kelvin Nicolle and Pam Hewinson. two of the six Christchurch members in the New Zealand artistic ice skating team to compete in the Australian championships from August 2 to 9, practising their routine at the Cental,"us indoor rink. Nicolle and Mrs Hewin-

son will contest the junior dance, an event in which another Christchurch combination. Alan and Ann Brennock, will also take part. The Brennocks have won the national senior pairs title for the last two vears. Mrs Hewinson is a former title-holder. The other Christchurch representatives, Grant Walker and Julie Clark, join to-

gether tor the novice dance. The team is New Zealand’s first official entry in the Australian championships but individuals have competed over the years. Although the national senior champion for the last six years, Gay Le Comte, of Christchurch, has since turned professional, the free-skating

champion, Katie Symmonds (Auckland), should be a good prospect in the junior event. She has been training in the United States. The experience gained from the visit should prove invaluable to the competitors and to the national selectors who will be able to set guidelines for future teams.
