Human leg bone found at Waikuku

Part of a human skeleton —possibly that of a Christchurch woman lost overboard from the ferry Rangatira in January—has been found on Waikuku Beach.

Tests were being made to determine whether the femur found on the beach was that of a man or a woman, raid Detective Senior-Sergeant R. Meikle, of the Christchurch C.LB. Mr Meikle said a human skull had been washed up on the beach at Motunau soon after a Christchurch woman, Mrs Janice O’Brien, was lost overboard from the Rangatira on January 12.

But we have no positive identification at this stage,” he added.
