The Meat Industry Research Institute of New Zealand (Inc.) was founded in 1955. It undertakes and promotes research and development on all matters connected with meat and meat byproducts and their processing. It is also vitally concerned with the implementation of the resuits of this work in the meat industry. The institute is financed jointly by the New Zealand Meat Industry, the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board and the New Zealand Government, and provides research support to an industry which exported products to the value of SNZ6SS million in the year ended June, 1975. The modern laboratories of the institute are situated in Hamilton, adjacent to the Ruakura Agricultural Research Centre of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, and the Campus of the University of Waikato. The institute currently is organised into four divisions: Bioscience, Biotechnology, Engineering and Administration. It has a total staff of 94 (34 Professionally qualified). Applicants should have a good degree in a relevant field of research (science or engineering), a good reputation in scholarship, research and administration, and have demonstrated scientific leadership. Salary payable will be up to $NZ19,588 depending on qualifications and experience. A subsidised superannuation scheme is available.
