Smoke kills woman
PA Wellington An elderly woman died on Saturday night when she was overcome by smoke from a smouldering couch in the lounge of her Thorndon home. She was Mrs Kath Service, aged 68. who lived alone at Grant Road. The Chief Fire Officer (Mr R. 11. Mills) said the fire was apparently caused by a cigarette. Mr Mills said the dead woman was found in the lounge.
