T.A.B. to conduct quinella betting
PA Wellington: The Totalisator Agency Board is to conduct quinella betting on the last, race at each meeting, provided it is not a division race, from the first race day in August. Quinella betting will be confined to T.A.B. offices that are connected to the computer. The board annouced in a statement yesterday that the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Highet) has given approval for the new betting. The minimum bet for a quinella will be $1 and it will be possible to take field bets on a single ticket (that is coupling one horse with all other run-
ners). In the event of the scratching of either or both selections, the bet will be refunded. Under normal circumstances the quinella investments made through the T.A.B. will be combined with the on-course pool, and the same dividend will be paid both on and off-course. However, on some occasions it
mav be necessary for the board to operate its own pool and de--lare an independent dividend.
,i Betting on a quinella will close :30 minutes before the advertised starting time for the event. The board states that it regrets that it is not feasible to accept quinella betting in those offices not connected, to the computer system. The reason for this is that in a maximum field. 276 different combinations are possible, and it is not practicable to collate and transmit this information bj 7 manual processes.
