TOP SCORERS IN TABLE TENNIS

Canterbury’s two outstanding table tennis players, Wayne Adamson and Maurice Burrowes, are the leading scorers in the A grade winter competition with three rounds remaining. The two New Zealand ranked players have won 31 of their 33 singles. Adamson’s losses were in the same round when he lost Io the Avonside I pair, Burrowes and Les Stewart. Burrowes was beaten in the fifth round by the South Island representative, Yee Chow Boi (University), and he suffered a shock loss to the Avonside II veteran, Bert Thompson, in the tenth round. Les Stewart, who was included for the first time in the Canterbury Kean Shield team for the national teams’ championship next month, has dropped only three singles from 33 matches. Light h-ranked in Canterbury, Stewart has beaten three higherranked opponents in Adamson, John Armstrong (Riccarton 1) and Bill Scott (Selwyn). However, he has lost to the unranked Kevin Duffy (Avenside IV) and Richard Dixon (Avonside II), and the seventh seeded Graeme Rhind (Avonside II) — all in three games.
