Woman foils robbery
The determination of an elderly woman foiled a robbery attempt in Linwood late yesterday afternoon.
Mrs Frances L. Donnelly, who has the Handy Dairy at 567 Worcester Street, near its intersection with Linwood Avenue, was behind the counter when a youth entered about 4.15 p.m.
The youth presented
what appeared to be a pistol and demanded money from Mrs Donnelly. She picked up an iron bar and brandished it and the youth made off. The police are looking for a male European, aged about 18, and described as having collar-length fair or ginger hair. He was wearing a pale blue windjacket and was carrying a blue crash-helmet.
