Billiards lead held

Shirley I retained the lead in the A grade billiards competition when it beat one of Its closest rivals, Riccarton, 2-1, In the latest round.

The outcome hinged largely on the game between the No. Is. David Meredith (Shirley) and Brian Kirkness, who have clashed a number of times in tournaments in recent weeks. This time it was Meredith who emerged the winner, a break of 94—the highest of the roundensuring his victory. Kaiapoi moved into second position with a 3-0 win over Shirley II and Hornby and Woolston stayed handy with 2-1 successes. Results:—
