Walters fined $200

PA Auckland The Matamata jockey, G. A. Walters, was yesterday fined {2OO by an appeal sub-committee of the Auckland district committee I after he had been found guilty on a charge of misconduct. Walters was charged with having used insulting language and having assaulted a jockey, M. J. ; Gilles. in the jockeys’ room at I Ellerslie, on June 5. The charge was laid by a racecourse inspector. Mr N.’A. Sowter. A press release by the appeal sub-committee says that the cir- ’ cumstances of the case arose from a riding engagement. It stated that in Walters’ favour. was the fact that he had admitted to having been considerably upset at the time. The committee took into account Walters’s good behaviour during the previous 18 months and decided that a fine would be an appropriate penalty.
