Jury absent at murder trial
AH of yesterday's hearing: in the murder trial in the Supreme Court was taken up with evidence and legal argument about the admissability of evidence. The jury was absent. Mr Justice Roper is presiding over the trial which began on Monday. The Crown has not yet concluded its case. Accused has pleaded not guilty to murdering his wife on February 17. Evidence has been given that the woman was found dead a short distance below
the Summit Road above the Heathcote Valley. She had suffered extensive head injuries which the Crown alleges were inflicted by accused with a rock. Accused claims that his wife jumped out of his moving car and over a bank. Messrs N. W. Williamson and G. K. Panckhurst appear for the Crown and Messrs D. I. Jones and C. K. Steven for accused who has pleaded not guilty. The trial is expected to finish on Friday.
