All Black ‘bluff
From T. P McLEAN Cape Town The All Blacks are “bluffers,” according to a leading South African coach, Amos du Ploov, who was capped again'st the 1949 All Blacks and who has since been a prominent rugby figure in Eastern Province. ••There is a great danger they will be underestimated throughout their tour," Mr du Plooy told Michael Shafto, of the “Cape Argus.” “They arrived almost unobtrusively, and by shrewd management they have presented themselves to the South African public as a side of no more than modest ability. “This is a mask behind which lurks real danger to the Springboks,” he said. “The All Blacks are having us on.” Mr du Plooy said the All Blacks’ system of defence was so good that not many tries would be scored against them. What was more, the All Blacks were playing 15-man rugby in the best possible sense, and their handling was almost of French standards. “The Springboks will be playing right into the hands of the All Blacks.” Mr du Plooy said, “if they fall for the modest, unassuming exterior they are presenting.”
