N.Z/s keenest sportsmen

Two of the keenest rugby players in New Zealand " must surely be Guy King and Cedric McAdam, who play second fiveeighths and wing respectively for the Pelorus team. Keenest because both plavers live on D'Urville Island and frequently travel by boat and car for as much as four hours, just to play a game. The team, which is wellplaced in the Marlborough I senior competition, is capI tained by Kevin Tinetti, I who says the team as a whole is often involved in I a great deal of travelling. ‘‘We let the two D’Urville Island blokes off their practice because its too far to come. But they have to travel at least three hours just to get to Blenheim for a home game, and you can add another hour to that for an ‘away’ game. "Most of the team lives

in Rai Valley — they’re either farmers or dairy factory workers. We’re often coached in Havelock, and we practice in Canvastown.” The team comprises players of a large range of ages — the youngest player is 17, and there are several “veterans” of 32. And in a province where rugby is a matter of .pride, the Pelorus team is a force to be reckoned with. Early in the competition,' the team had a win against! last season’s top team.
