Farm study planned
PA Wellington Farmers could be tossing money down the drain by over-capitalising farm machinery. The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries’ agricultural economist (Mr D. de B. Galwey) said, “In many instances, contracting may be more economical." A study would be made by the Ministry of farmers who keep records of their machinery costs, Mr Galwey said. “Probably the most important information we need concerns repair and maintenance and these figures can only come from the farmers themselves."
Mr Galwey said it was hoped to encourage more farmers to start keeping records so the exercise could be a continuing one.
