Marist star injured

The Marist senior rugby team has suffered a heavy set-back to its hopes of winning the C.S.B. Trophy this year. The side’s star player, first five-eighths Bernie Stewart, suffered a dislocated collarbone in the match against Lincoln College last Saturday and might not be available for the rest of the season.

At the very least, he will be out of action for some weeks and the Joss comes at a bad time for Marist, which on Saturday plays one of its key games—against the competition co-leader, Linwood. Such an injury is nothing new for Stewart. It was a damaged collar-bone that forced him to return home, early from the New Zealand Juniors’ tour of Australia in 1972.

As well as losing its best player, Marist will also miss Stewart’s goal-kicking ability. He has kicked goals in each of the four club games he played this season, for a total of 17 points.
