Delay likely of second Hearst trial
<N Z P A Reuter —Copyright) SAN FRANCISCO. May 11. The legal unravelling of the Patricia Hearst affair today seemed headed for further delays after officials said the 22-year-oid newspaper heiress would not be ready to face her second trial as planned on June 1. Hearst is at present undergoing psychiatric tests in a San Diego federal prison after being convicted in March of taking part in bank raids with members of the Symbionese Liberation Army who kidnapped her in 1974. The length of her sentence may depend on the outcome of the tests. Her second trial, on further charges connected with a Los Angeles gunbattle in 1974. has already been postponed once—when Hearst was rushed to hospital last month with a collapsed lung. Now the Federal Prosecutor, Mr Sam Mayerson, has said that the Federal prison authorities have told him they will not release Hearst for long periods until her tests are completed. Asked yesterday if this [would prevent her going on trial as planned on June I. he said: "That is the ultimate effect.”
