Arrests made in robbery

(From Our Own Reporter) BLENHEIM, May 9. The Blenheim police have arrested two youths in connection with an armed robbery attempt by masked men on Friday night.

A police spokesman said tonight that a third man was still assisting police with their inquiries. At 6.35 p.m. on Friday night, two masked men burst into the Waterlea Dairy in Blenheim, just as the owner (Mr G. Roufsky). was counting the day’s takings. One of the men stood by the door, while the other pointed a .22 riflle at Mr Roufsky, telling him to “Freeze, or I’ll shoot.” Mr Roufsky said the armed man was standing close to him, and he was able to reach over and grab the end of the rifle barrel. “I snatched it out of his hand, and lifted it up to hit him, but they both took to their heels. I followed them for a while, but they were too fast, so I came back and called the police. Everything happened so quickly, and I noticed afterwards that the rifle was loaded.” A police team spent most of Friday night working on

the case. The rifle was identified, but was not registered by its present owner. The two youths were apprehended on Saturday afternoon and they will appear in the Blenheim Magistrate’s Court tomorrow morning.
