Calf prices firm at Culverden
Considering quality was much plainer, store calf values remained firm on previous rates when the final Culverden sale of the season was held on Friday. Small to medium calves made, up the bulk of the offering of 930 head.
Best Hereford steer calves sold to $52, and there were a few other sales of good medium calves at more than $4O. Otherwise small steer calves sold at $27 to $35. with very young calves at $lB to $25. A line of 92 steer calves from Marble Point run had a very good sale for Herefords. Prices ranged from $26 to $52. for an average of S4l. W. B. Clarkson (Kaikoura) had quite a good sale for 50 Angus and Angus-cross, his prices ranging from $42 to $50.50. Heifer calves had a sound sale for the season. A small selection °f the best sold at $3O to $3B, with medium to average at $24 to S3O. and small down to $l2. The main quotations of heifers were:-—J. A. Ferguson (Springs “Unction), Angus at $36 to $3B; Marble Point, 32 Herefords at $26 to $32; and W. B. Clarkson, 30 Angus-cross at $27.50 to $3O. Only 145 adult cattle were offered, and they had a very good sale for the season. A line
of forward medium 20-month-old Angus steers from M. and R Tovey (Rotherham), sold at $BO to $B9, and a pen of 2J-year-olds from I. Peacock (Murchison), fetched $96. Fifty 20-month-old Hereford heifers from A. D. Galletly CWaikari), sold at 563 to $72.50. This was one of the best sales of heifers of this age this season.
