Richmond men win bowls

(From Our Own Reporter) The Richmond four, skipped by Ben Mcßrydie. won the Nelson Bowling' Centre Easter fours tournament yesterday, beating' the Maitai four of Tony Arnitrano 27-16 in the final. Mcßrydie held a very narrow lead throughout the game and was six points up at the fourteenth end. Armitrano took five shots on the fifteenth but Mcßrydie nullified this with six on the sixteenth. Armitrano managed to reduce the 21-14 lead by two at the seventeenth, but McBrydie took two shots on each of the next three heads and the game finished at the twentieth end. Mcßrydie’s four comprised Buck Carnahan. Reg Crichton and Pat Pattison and Amitrano’s four, Tony Romano, Noel Damon and Anton Gargiulo. One hundred fours entered this year’s tournament which was played in brilliant sunshine throughout. Among them were two fours from Onehunga, one of them skipped by Bob McDonald,

just back from representing New Zealand at the world bowls series at South Africa. His four was eliminated in the second round of postsection play by Cliff Dickonson’s four (Tahunanui). McDonald was leading 14-4 when Dickonson scored 11 shots on the last four hands to win 15-14. The consolation pairs tournament was won by the Hutt pair, Les Muir and Ted Bignail (s) who beat the Ngawatu pair Alan Bridgeman and Barry McGregor (s) 2017 in the final.
