Record belly dancing
(N.Z. Press Association) LONDON. A belly dancer, Soraya, earned about $3OOO after breaking the six-hour world record belly-dancing time on Monday. The Turkish millionaire, Mr Joseph Mourat, has promised Soraya $l5 for every minute, by which she exceeds the six-hour record. Early on Monday morning, Soraya had worn out four pairs of shoes and was still dancing, despite swollen .'ankles and blistered feet. The belly dancing marathon is taking place in the Gallinoli Restaurant, in Bishopgate, east London. She had already earned $720 in bonus payments for the extra minutes She had danced over the previous six-hour record, and if she reaches her target of 30 hours, she will end up with a bonus of $2520. Just to keep her strength up. she is eating the occasional steak, washed down with orange juice and champagne. While she dances, So- ; raya’s belly is insured at a | premium of $2.55 an hour.
