Car rally to Crowe
The Christchurch rally driver, Trevor Crowe, drove consistently at the week-end to win the Otago Car Club’s invitation car rally, in his Datsun 1200 SSS. With his co-driver, Austin Cole, Crowe won nine out of 11 special stages in the 450 km rally, which twisted around the coastal forest south of Dunedin.
lan Beggs of Invercargill (Mazda) w r as second and Wayne Murdoch of Timaru (Datsun 120 Y) third. Another Christchurch driver, Gary Cliff, had a narrow escape when his Datsun 1200 Coupe plunged off the road and rolled end-for-end. Cliff and his co-driver escaped serious injury but the car was described as “demolished.”
