Holden prices rise again

Retail prices for most Holdens will rise by more than $lOO tomorrow in General MotorsH olden's secend across-the-board increase in less than two months. From tomorrow the Holden Belmont sedan — up $93 to $4743 — will be the only Holden passenger vehicle priced at less than $5OOO. The top-of-the-line Statesman Caprice will rise $235 to $11,917. Torana prices will rise bv between $2O and $B3 to take the range of retail prices to between $4345 for the four-cylinder sedan and $6171 (or the six-cylinder "SS” hatchback. General Motors-Holden announced the rises, averaging 1.74 per cent, after approval from the Prices Justification Tribunal. The tribunal approved similar rises for Ford and Chrysler last week. Prices for cars from the •*big three’’ last rose about 2 per cent in late February and early March, and all have had about six rises in the last year. A G.M.-H. spokesman said;
today that the latest rise had been granted because of higher material and service costs, higher wages and salaries, and an increase in warranty costs. The rises will apply to all cars delivered from G.M.-H. plants from tomorrow. Cars already in stock with retailers will not be affected. The rises affect 11 Holden passenger models, four Holden commercial models, seven Torana models, three Gemini models and 27 Chevrolet and Bedford trucks. Examples of the rises are Kingswood sedan up $lOO to $5069, Premier sedan up $126 to $6370, Monaro “LS” coupe up $129 to $6538, and Torana six-cvlinder sedan up $63 to $4647.
