Mount in big upset
Hamilton, the only minor association to win the Chathan Cup, back in 1942, Is now on the verge of carrying off another ma for soccer trophy. In yet another of this season’s growing number of major up sets, the Waikato club on Saturday ousted Mount Wellington from the Air New Zealand tour nament, winning their semi-final at Newmarket Park, 3-1. Scoring first after only twc minutes, Hamilton, of the Northern League, never looked back against its Rothmans National League opponent. lan Dolmai? scored first, and then, in a three minute burst early in the second half, Barry McKenzie and the former Mount and New Zealand striker, Dennis Tindall, took Ham ilton into a 3-0 lead. Dave Taylor replied for the Mount immediately afterwards, but this goal came too late tc unsettle a strong, determined Hamilton defence. Mount Wellington had won the Air New Zealand tournament in the two previous seasons the competition has been held. It was Hamilton’s third victim in the national league this season. Blockhouse Bay and Eastern Suburbs having been beaten by the Waikato side in the same tournament. Today, Hamilton will Play Gisborne City tn the final. On Saturday, Gisborne narrowly beat Caversham 6-5 on penalties after a goal-less 120 minutes of ordinary and extra time. The unlucky Caversham player who missed from the penalty spot was Robbie Neilson. The 'series had gone into “sudden death” at 5-5. Martyn Ryan scored for Gisborne but Neilson missed, Arab satellites An agreement to set up an Arab communications network with an earth satellite relay station has been concluded in Cairo at Arab League headquarters. The satellite project will cost SUSIOOm and be financed by all Arab countries. —Cairo.
