Fortnightly broadcasts for ‘Youth Recital’

Radio New Zealand’s Christchurch programme “Youth Recital,” aimed to give young musicians a chance to perform pubhcly, has drawn such an overwhelming response that it will be broadcast fortnightly from Station 3YA instead of monthly. From Tuesday, April 20, when the third programme will be broadcast, “Youth Recital” will occupy the 7 p.m. slot every second Tuesday.
“There has been a most encouraging response to the local programme, which has been well supported by music teachers in the city,” said the producer (Hugh MacDonald). “I have a stack of tapes which will provide sufficient material for programmes for the next two or three months.” Announcer for the programme is Bill Southgate, who also interviews several of the performers. “Youth Recital” is designed for young people from about eight years to 18. As well as pianists, a number of instrumentalists have been attracted, including several chamber groups.
