The Ashburton horse, Abide, ridden by Mrs Jan Hay, won the championship event for B grade horses in the annual New Zealand Horse Society’s Easter jumpirtg show at Methven on Saturday. Abide, which jumped the only clear-round, finished ahead of the South Canterbury horse, Cyclone (four faults), ridden by Marlene Taylor, and Dissuade, ridden by’ Anthony Hampton (Rakaia), 11 fat ’ s. Da-Waggagul, a novice Kaikoura horse ridden by D. Buick, won the Futurity Stakes for novices and C grade horses in an exciting finish, after jumping off against the clock with the Lincoln horse, Windsor Grey, Miss J. Foster. The Kaikoura horse had another clear round in the
jump-off, whereas Windsor Grey dropped a rail in the treble. One of the unluckiest competitors in this event was P. McCallum, of Southland, riding Cover Drive, which baulked at the water jump and deposited his rider in the water.
