Alcoa prices increased

(N.Z.P.A.Reuter—Copyright) MELBOURNE. Alcoa of Australia, Ltd, is keeping face with Comalco, Ltd, by applying price increases averaging 4.3 per cent for aluminium ingot and semi-fabricated products from May 1. The Price Justification Tribunal has approved an increase of 3.3 c to 78.7 c a kilogram for 99.5 per cent purity and foundry ingot. Alcoa had sought a 3.5 c rise to 78.9 c. AH other grades of ingot, including electrical conductor, extrusion billet and sheet ingot, will be increased by 4.4 per cent, giving a weighted average increase for these grades of 3.5 c a kilogram. Alcoa’s semi-fabricated product prices will rise by this 3.5 c ingot price increase, plus a semi-fabricated increase of 3.5 c for extruded products and 3c for sheet and foil. The company said that the increases would improve profitability marginally and would enable Alcoa to recoup operating cost increases which it had been absorbing since last July in the case of ingot and foil and since December in the case of sheet and extrusions.
