News, Ltd seeks an extension
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) ADELAIDE. News, Ltd, has requested an extension time from the Adelaide Stock Exchange for the lodgement of its half-year financial report to December 31.
The company publishes a number of newspapers, including the nationallycirculated "Australian” and “The Daily Telegraph” in Sydney. The Adelaide exchange said that the request would be considered on Tuesday. Similar requests from companies to be considered on that date include those from
William Charlick, Ltd, U.D.A.P. Investments, Ltd and Australian International and British, Ltd. The Exchange also said that unless Lightburn and Co., Ltd, and Lightburn Finance, ' Ltd, lodge their reports by ' April 30, they would be sus- ■ pended from trading on May 3. Another major publisher— Australian Consolidated Press, Ltd—has been threatened with suspension . by the Sydney exchange. As well as the “CourierMail,” the group publishes "The Telegraph,” "The Sunday Mail,” “The Cairns Post,” “The Wynnum-Redlands Herald,” and “The Redcliffe Herald.” It also controls radio stations 4BK and 4AK, and has a substantial interest in the Brisbane television station BTQ7. The Herald and Weekly Times, Ltd, of Melbourne, has a 39.3 per cent direct equity in Queensland Press. The exchange told the company—whose major publications include the weekly magazine “The Bulletin”— that trading in its shares would be suspended unless the accounts were received by Monday, May 3. A similar ultimatum was also given to an associate company, Congress Printing, Ltd, and 12 other companies. The other companies are All-State Explorations, N.L., Arcadia Minerals, Ltd, Atherton Antimony, N.L., Laverton Nickel, N.L., Leonora Nickel, N.L., New Guinea Goldfields, Ltd, Broken Hill Metals, N.L., Clifford Minerals, Ltd, Command Minerals, N.L., Broken Hill Holdings, Ltd, Toga, Ltd and R. B. Davies Industries, Ltd (extension granted to April 30).
