In the 100 cu. cm rotary light class qualifying rounds, eight drivers beat the old lap record set last month and only o.6sec separates them. The class had 24 entries and the winner will represent New Zealand at either an international meeting in Hong Kong or the world championships in West Germany. Chris Lambden, of Christchurch, had the fastest time, 1.1 sec, under the old lap record, which he also held. John Hamilton (Christchurch) and Keith Haddock (Auckland) were next. 0.31 sec behind Lambden.
