Calves to $65 at Coalgate
Steer calves were generally in line with [Addington rates at the second Coalgate calf sale on Thursday. Heifer calves, however, [made some improvement, although the market for them was still by no means strong. The sale drew a yarding of almost 1550 head, of which 940 were si-er calves, and quality was very satisfactory. Most of the calves had come from Rakaia Gorge propertias, and they had clearly had a very good [growing season. ' The best steer calves regularly bettered $5O. and as at o her sales, he Angus-cross calves dri'w the best de- • mand. The top price for steer calves was $65 f ■ 18 very well-grown Shorthorns from T. H. Evans. They were the only Shorthorns in the steei section.
