Ballins-Nathan Auckland distribution link
Ballins Industries. Ltd, and L. D. Nathan and Company. Ltd, have joined forces in the Auckland area regarding their wine and spirit distribution interests.
The chairman of Ballins (Mr B. J. Wilks) and the chairman of L. D. Nathan (Mr L. D. Nathan) said in a joint statement that the new company will be known as Allied Liquor Merchants, Ltd. This new company will be equally-owned, and will control and operate the agencies held by the two groups, their sales to hotels, wine and spirit merchants, and other licensed outlets in the Auckland Province. “It should be emphasised that
the new arrangements envisage a completely separate company from both L. D. Nathan and Company, Ltd, and Ballins Industries, Ltd,” the statement said It will be administered by a board of directors nominated by the two companies; the board will be comprised of two directors from each parent company, and the
first appointments will be: Mr B. H_ Ballin (chairman) Messrs B. S. Cole, W. B. Dunlop, and R. E. Wylie.
Over-all benefits
The subsidiaries of the two groups to be acquired by the new company are Macindoes Wines and Spirits, Ltd, and Cooke and Company, Ltd, from Ballins, and Reid Nathan, Ltd, from Nathans. The board of both companies consider that there will be substantial benefits to be derived from the merging of these divisions of their two operations. It is intended to acquire a [warehouse large enough to service the activities of the combined companies; this | co-ordination of warehousing ' and distribution will unquestionably assist in holding operating costs and achieve over-ail benefits for customers, the two chairmen say. Assured outlets Allied Liquor Merchants, Ltd, will also serve as a distribution and warehousing centre for the other liquor interests of Nathans and Ballins that do not form part of this venture.
Nathans continues to own and operate its hotel chain, wine shops, and domestic liquor outlets, and Bailins similarly will retain separate ownership of its hotels, wine shops, and domestic outlets in the Auckland province. The hew company will have assured outlets comprising 10 domestic wine and spirit merchants, 16 wine shops, and 19 hotels and taverns.
