Motueka storm bill $1m
(N.Z. Press Association) NELSON. April 14. Damage to tobacco crops and properties and stock losses during last Friday’s storm in the Motueka district has now been estimated at about slm. The president ot the Tobacco Growers’ Federation (Mr R. W. S. Stevens) said today that the re-establish-ment of road and telephone communications had enabled a more comprehensive assessment of damage to tobacco lands, farm buildings, fences, reading and bridges and of stock losses. “I would now estimate the cost of damage and restoration to be approaching Sim.” Most tobacco growers were also mixed farmers, said Mr Stevens.
