National road safety contest
Road safety committees throughout New Zealand are running a national
essay competition in secondary schools on the subject of road safety. The Christchurch committee will approach 40 schools in Canterbury seeking entries for the contest. Each school will be asked to submit its four best entries, each of less than 500 words, no later than May 7. The national winner of the competition will get a week’s holiday in Australia for him or herself and one parent, plus an instant colour camera. The second and third-place getters will win cameras, and there will be three prizes in the Canterbury-Westland semifinal, as well as three Christchurch prizes.
