Boy faces charge of injuring
CN.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, April 14. A 14-year-old boy will appear in the Taumarunui Children’s and Young Persons’ Court today, charged with injuring a person bv an unlawful act. The charge arises from a shooting incident at Waitaanga early yesterday morning. It is alleged that he discharged a .303 riflle and shot a woman in the stomach outside a house in the small settlement, which is situated 14 miles west of Ohura, about 7 a.m. Tonight, the woman, Mrs Barbara O’Brien, was reported to be in a satisfactory condition in Taumarunui Hospital, after surgery. The youth surrendered about 9 a.m., after hiding in a hay barn near the scene of the shooting.
