Moynihan ‘just entertainment’
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 14. Television One’s trade union drama, “Moynihan,” was entertainment and should not be taken literally, the national president of Actors’ Equity (Mr Michael Woolf) said in a statement today.
He was commenting on a statement by the president of the Federation of Labour (Sir Thomas Skinner) that the programme was “totally unrelated to the trade union movement in New Zealand.” Sir Thomas said the federation would protest against the programme to the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) when he returned from overseas. Mr Woolf said he had no personal experience of bribery or sharp practice in the trade union movement.
“But trade unionists are orobably not all saints,” he said. “AH lawyers, however, are not conniving, all doctors are not neurotic but handsome, and all policemen are not brutal. Yet we see fictional portrayals of al’ of these stereotypes on television every night. “It’s entertainment, nothing more, and it’s the stock-in-trade of the membership of Actors’ Equity, who are the closest people in this production. “I suggest you do as I do —put your feet up and enjoy
