Champion at 50
Not many women of 50 with five children could rival the athletic skills of Mrs Audrey Wood, of the New Brighton Athletic Club, whose agility and grace could well be the envy' of most women less than half her age. Mrs Wood (above) represented Canterbury at
the national veterans’ track and field championships in Hamilton last week-end. and romped away' with three titles. Mrs Wood's style over the hurdles had been described by the former holder of the national 400 metres title. Rendell McIntosh, as “pretty good.**
She has also plenty of spring in her high jumping. She took five Canterbury titles, a record she shared with Arthur Mahan (Toe H), at the recent Canterbury veterans’ championships at the New Brighton club's all-weather track at Keyes Road.
