Paraplegics aim for records

Officials are hopeful that two world records will be established when the eighth national paraplegic games are held in Canterbury, with the headquarters at Burnham Camp, during Easter weekend. Graham Condon, a member of Zealand team to travel to the paraplegic Olympics in Toronto next August, has been bettering the grade three discus record in training, and he wili have the chance to repeat the effort in actual competition on Saturday. The previous evening, another national representative, Brian McNicholl, is expected to challenge the light-weight weight-lifting mark. The games, supported by the Caltex Oil Company, begin on Friday with track and field events, slalom, weightlifting, and—at Bangor Street —smallbore rifle shooting. Archery, precision javelin and swimming (at. Queen Elizabeth II Park pool) are scheduled for Saturday, with indoor bowls, snooker, outdoor bowls, table tennis and basketball on Sunday.
