[(Mr McLachlan) said today [that the average number of 'passengers on the service) (was jess than 50. and this] was insufficient to justify such an uneconomic rail op-; eration when there was an I alternative bus service. ! “The train service, which leaves Rangiora at 6.55 a.m. and returns from Christchurch at 5.10 p.m. will makej its final run on Friday, April 30, ’’ said the Minister. "I appreciate that this has been operating for manv years, but I am fullv confident that the travelling public will be able to switch, without any great inconvenience, to the Midland Motorways buses timed to leave Rangiora at 6 45 and 7 20 a.m. and return from Christchurch at 4.25 and 5.10 p.m. Mondav to Friday,” said the Minister.
