Slow Southland sale

(AZ. Press Association) INVERCARGILL. Sixty-one lots were sold for a total of $52,800. an average of $865 at the Southland standardbred sale in Invercargill yesterday. Top price of the sale was the $4OOO given by the Mokotua syndicate for a yearling half-brother by Smooth Hanover to Ho Ho King and Adios Adieu. The colt was offered by his Wyndham breeders, Mr and Mrs J- J Holland, who raced Adios Adieu. The top-priced co/t was a quality chestnut and has been registered Real Smooth. Passings were frequent during the day. especially in the opening stages when there was little demand for broodmares, even though the quality of offerings in that section was of a moderate standard. In the yearling section, there was also a quiet overall tone, but bidding was keen for the odd well-bred lot. Down Under, a quality Majestic Chance yearling colt from Monarque’s half-sister, Sal’s Cherie, changed hands for $2600. He was offered by Mr H. W. Skinner and Mrs G. M. Cruickshank, whose husband, Mr G. C. Cruickshank, was the buyer.
