Audaciter set for five in a row

’ Audaciter yesterday won his fourth race in 16 days for his Christchurch owner, Mr Les Ling.

With characteristic dash and power he showed more of his front-running powers to win the North Canterbury Racing Club’s President’s Handicap under top weight of 59.5. He will carry 4.5 kg less tn the Canterbury JockeyClub's George Adams Handicap at Riccarton next Monday, and even with the likes of Grey Way in opposition h. will come in for much attention. Audaciter is now winner

of 17 races for Mr Ling, who bought him three years ago. He started his present golden patch of form in the Hororata Cup early last month, then won two races including the cup at the Nelson meeting. Audaciter is prepared at Riccarton by Kelvin Quayle, and as usual was ridden by Phillip Smith, who rated him skilfully from the front end. Karnak, ridden at one kilo overweight, finished doggedly for second with a run that also brought her in for some notice as a prospective light-weight for the George Adams Handicap.

She was a neck better than Deep Mystery, but had covered less ground than the third horse which , as usual, was inclined to run keenly. Butch showed fair ability for fourth. He appeared to be in cramped quarters briefly at about half way, but rallied encouragingly to finish only half a length from the third horse. Mr Richmond was even more impressive in running fifth. He ran out of racing room when keen to quicken in the straight. Top Secret picked up several places from the 1200 m for a promising sixth.
