Talks on beef

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 12. New Zealand was still not convinced of the need for the United States to impose restrictions on beef imports, the acting Prime Minister (Mr Taiboys) said today. Speaking on the eve of the visit to Wellington by the United States Secretary of Agriculture (Mr Earl Butz) Mr Taiboys — who is also Minister for Overseas Trade — said that all the information available to New Zealand had indicated that there was no need for the United States quotas. The Americans, however, had rejected New Zealand’s case.

Mr Taiboys said that he and Mr Butz on Wednesday morning would discuss the beef question, as well as tarrif barriers.
