SECRET PACT?

The “Washington Star” reports today that Syria has been consulting Israel, through the United States Embassies in Damascus and Tel Aviv, to make certain that its military actions in Lebanon do not provokt Israeli retaliatory 1 action. The consultations have been going on since January, the newspaper says, quoting American Government officials as saying: “No Israeli government can openly acknowledge that they have given the green light for Syria to send its forces into Lebanon, even over half a mile. “A better word for what the Israelis are doing is acquiesce. “So long as no Syrian forces go into the southern zone, the Israelis have secretly indicated that they will not stage an invasion of their own.”
