FORMAL CUTS POPULAR
Menswear cloth collections for the European winter 1976-77 indicate a trend for tailored fashion in pure virgin wool, according to the New Zealand Wool Board. One of Germany’s major cloth themes is the return of the younger man to the elegant dark suit for formal occasions. For business, executive and fashion wear, the theme is traditional, subdued, gentlemanly, but with a modern lift to the cloth styling. Fine stripes, in rich contrast to deep grey or even black, provide highlights and reverse stripe effects produce an even greater luxury appearance. Decorative colours are
gold, brightish blue and a reddish brown which, for the trendsetters, becomes a lead ground shade. The essence of the new season is tailored fashion. One of the most avant garde looks takes up a welMOved tradition with flannel, which is making a comeback in formally cut suits for the younger man. Very important for the season is handle and the specific appearance of milled and clear cut worsteds. Cloth manufacturers are reporting that the upturn in demand for 100 per cent wool fabric for men’s suitings is gathering strength and likely to become a forceful market influence during the new winter sea son, says the Wool Board.
