ARTHUR S PASS EXCHANGE

(Parliamentary KeporterJ WELLINGTON. April 7. The new Arthur’s Pass automatic telephone exchange will be brought Into service later this month, the M.P. for Rakaia (Mr 1 McLachlan), announced today. He said he had been advised bv the Postmaster-1 General (Mr. Templeton that: the cutover would begin at i 10.00 a.m. on Mondav. April i 26 "At present most subscribers are on heavilv loaded partv lines connected to the Greymouth exchange, and others are connected to the, local telephone office,” he! said.

“After the cutover, most subscribers will receive individual or two-party service, and no line will have more than five connections. “The new exchange will certainly provide a greatly improved standard of service.” said Mr McLachlan. “It will be welcomed by residents in the area.”

New member.— A new member has been appointed to the Marlborough regional committe of the Historic Places Trust. She is Mrs Christine Cole-Catley, a Journalist, and a member of the Broadcasting Council. Mrs Cole-Catlev replaces Mr ■R. P Armstrong.
