Use of car
Sir, — About 10- p.m. on (February 28 I was walking 'along Colombo Street in Sydenham towards the railway station when a white twodoor Escort registration No
HR9758 with Canterbury Transport Board markings and number Al 9 which was parked outside the Crown [Motor Court, drove off. As I [walked further down Colombo Street, I came upon this car again outside another car sales in between McKenzies and Haywrights or thereabouts. The driver and passenger were looking at cars. After a while, they drove off. I was wondering, [in the light of the present fuel price etc what this car was doing at 10 p.m. on Saturday night cruising the town with the driver looking at car sales. — Yours, etc., EVAN JONES. February 29, 1976.
[Mr M. G. Taylor, general manager. Christchurch Transport Board, replies: “The vehicle was travelling on legitimate board business but the stops made were not authorised. Appropriate disciplinary action has been taken.”]
Police move. — Detective Inspector N. J. Stokes, at present in charge of the armed offenders squad in Wellington, has been posted to Christchurch. — (P.A.)
