These islands
Islands 13 (Spring 1975). Edited and published by Robin Dudding. 112 pp. N.Z. price $1.60. The latest “Islands” is encouraginly diverse: it offers a number of interesting works in various fields. The groups of poems by Bill Manhire and Denis Glover arc particularly noteworthy: Manhire's poems have a real urgency and power in them which may perhaps have been lacking in some of his earlier work. Denis Glover demonstrates some old mastery in deft witty and compassionate love poems. Maurice Gee's story, if too forced to be among his best work, still demonstrates his rare understanding and menace. In criticism. lan Wedde’s essay on Charles Brasch's poetic is. after introductory genuflexions to mindless modishness, a sensitive and illuminating sustained view of Brasch’s work.
