A French fashion designer, Louis Feraud, who has made clothes for the actresses,] Brigitte Bardot and Catherine Deneuve, wants rhe French ~rmy to wear flowers and bow-ties. He is one of six haute couturiers submitting ideas for new uniforms in a $30,000 competition run by] the French Army. Mr Feraud says that flowers on denim uniforms ■•might not be very soldierly, but would be fun.” Mr Feraud. who is, apparently, not taking the competition too seriously, believes that the Army would present “a gayer image" if troops wore bow-ties and helmets decorated with real flowers.
I Sketches by six L op ‘designers were published in the daily newspaper, ] “France-Soir” yesterday. ] The sketch submitted by the avant garde designer, ■ Andre Courreges, showed a (uniform which appeared to 'be a cross between an American baseball player and a science-fiction spaceman.
For the barrack square, Mr Courreges suggests tawny-coloured boots closed by gold clips.
