Final at Elmwood
The Elmwood team will have the advantage of playing in familiar surroundings when it contests the national final of the Rothmans Cup inter-club tennis competition on April 3.
The contest will be held at the Elmwood courts, to mark the club’s jubilee year. Elmwood’s opponent in the final —to decide New Zealand’s premier club—will be Mount Eden, of Auckland. The two-tier inter-club competition was introduced to the domestic tennis scene this season. Elmwood won the Canterbury zone competi-
• tion and went on to beat Khandallah (Wellington) in a first division semi-final. The Elmwood team comprises Warren Edgecumbe, Bill Thom, Gary Harris and two former national women’s champions, Robyn Hunt and Marilyn Lawrence.
The club will be chasing the Rothmans Cup—and the prize money of s2so—zealously, to put the final stamp on its jubilee year. It has already won the Canterbury men’s championship, and it is leading in the women’s competition. Tlie national second division final, also on April 3. will be between Kew (Invercargill) and either Whakatane or Masterton.
