University Vacancies THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL UNIVERSITY APPLICATIONS ARE INVITED for appointment to the following: RESEARCH SCHOOL OF EARTH SCIENCES CHAIR OF GEOPHYSICS The Research School of Earth Sciences has an academic staff of twenty-six under the direction of Professor A. L, Hales who wishes to make an appointment to the Chair of Geophysics, vacant since the retirement of Professor J. C. Jaeger. The fields of research in the School include Experimental Petrology, Cosmochemistry, Physics and Chemistry of the Earth’s interior. Isotope Geochemistry, Trace Element Geochemistry, Rock Mechanics, Terrestrial Magnetism including Palaeomagnetism, Seismology, Geophysical Fluid Dynamics and Economic Geology, the latter two having been added recently. In making the appointment, preference will be given to seismologists but applicants specialising in other branches of geophysics will also be considered. RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS Applications are also invited from interested persons with suitable qualifications and experience for appointment as Research Fellows in the following fields. Experimental Petrology; Isotope Geochemistry; Experimental Rock Deformation; Trace Element Geochemistry; Cosmochemistry; Seismology.
