(N Z Freti Association) AUCKLAND, March 18. Statements allegedly made! to the police by motorcycle I gang members were sup-j pressed by Mr H. Y. Gil-1 liand, S.M., in the Auckland! Magistrate's Court today. the statements were read, during the fourth day of I depositions against 12 men! jointly charged with the! murder of Bradley Earl !l Haora, at 23 Prospect Ter-J race. Mt Eden, on December • 29. One of the defence counsel. Mr N. J. Carter, asked that none of the written or verbal statements by published because thev might later be challenged. They might also be prejudicial to others charged if they were published, he said. The Magistrate said it! would be unfortunate, and more importantly, prejudicial to the defendants if the statements were published. This was especially so as the present hearing was a preliminary one. and the matter could later be heard by a Jury.
He said counsel would have to apply for suppression of statements as thev affected each of their clients. He would not make an order for suppression, without an application. The name of a witness, the mother of one of the defendants, was also suppressed during the afternoon. The hearing will continue tomorrow.
